Current projects

IES are engaged in projects with various groups.

Among them are:

• Green Futures Pilot: The goal of Green Futures is to begin closing the gap and reducing dependence of Indigenous communities on government assistance through creation of jobs, income and sustainable change in the new green economy. In particular, Green Futures seeks to minimise the risk arising from the impacts of a changing climate and to ensure that regional, rural and remote Indigenous communities are ready to face these impacts.

  • Energy Efficient Homes – establishing roof insulation businesses with Indigenous communities to service Indigenous owned housing stock as well as general community housing in rural, regional and remote areas. Employment for at least 10 currently unemployed people will result from this by August 09.

• Pilot to provide feasibility study on forestry as well as to start a seedling nursery and source of fresh vegetables.

• Regional training and assessment of green jobs and green business opportunities – with project partners.

• Discussions regarding career counselling, training and education options.

• Green Homes initiative to improve energy efficiency in existing housing stock.

• Green Designs initiative to develop designs for new housing stock taking into account climate change and energy costs.
